Adult singers
The adult singers are volunteers who come from a range of professions and backgrounds. They are both men and women, singing all four vocal parts (SATB). There is an emphasis is on professionalism, and a good standard of music-reading and vocal ability is required.
The adult singers have two main roles: singing ATB (the ‘back row’) with the boys’ and girls’ choirs, and singing SATB as an ensemble in their own right. Sopranos may also sing with the girl trebles at times. This versatility gives singers the opportunity to perform a wide range of repertoire from early polyphony to contemporary works, and to become involved in performances and recordings beyond the scope of the trebles choirs. The choral scholars sing alongside the adult singers at times.
Because regular commitments can prove difficult, adult singers indicate their availability in advance for dates from the choir diary, and the ensemble is formed from those available.
Adults sing during term-time for:
Thursdays as available | 7 to 8pm rehearsal |
Sundays as available | 9.15 to 11.15am rehearsal and service |
3.15 to 4.45pm rehearsal and service | |
Other times as available | Festivals, concerts, tours as arranged |
