About the Boys’ Choir
The Boys’ Choir was founded in around 1879, and runs in parallel to the Girls’ Choir and on an equal basis.
The Boys’ Choir is open to boys aged seven to eleven (Years 3 to 6). Previous experience is not necessary – we’re pleased to hear about boys who sing in their school choirs, have music lessons, or have taken music exams, but it’s not essential. What we are looking for are:
- An enthusiasm for singing and music
- A willingness to get involved and learn new things
- Parental support for their choir membership
Choristerships are free of charge. Choristers develop valuable life skills and gain self-confidence while receiving a unique musical education. Choristers receive:
- a unique and fun musical education
- activities, trips, and concerts
- new friendships
- pocket-money pay
- excellent vocal training
- RSCM Award and AB Theory training
- crucial life skills (such as confidence, teamwork, responsibility and leadership)
- reinforced academic skills (such as literacy, numeracy and languages)
Boys’ commitments during term-time are:
Wednesday | 5.30 to 7pm rehearsal and tuition |
Every second Sunday | 9.15 to 11.15am rehearsal and service |
3.15 to 4.45pm rehearsal and service | |
Other times | Festivals, concerts, tours as arranged |
