Lay clerks
St. Peter’s established eight paid lay clerkships in September 2025. We appointed two sopranos, two altos/counter-tenors, two tenors, and two basses. This is an exciting new opportunity for accomplished singers to sing a wide range of choral repertoire at a high standard to enhance the worshipping life of the church.
The lay clerks normally sing either alone as an SATB octet, or with the choristers as either SATB or ATB. Successful candidates will be experienced, trained singers, able to contribute to the ensemble and as soloists in a wide range of musical styles. While good sight-reading is an important requirement, lay clerks will be expected to have prepared the repertoire in advance of each service.
The lay clerks will normally sing on the first, second, and fourth Sunday mornings of each month, as follows:
| Sundays as required | 9.15 to 9.50am rehearsal |
| 10.00 to 11.00am Sung Eucharist | |
| Other times | Concerts, tours, other events as agreed |
Vacancy for a Tenor lay clerk
We currently have a vacancy for a Tenor lay clerk to complete our founding appointments. If you are a good tenor with strong sight-reading skills, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

Deputy lay clerks
Experienced singers are always welcome to act as deputies or additional lay clerks from time to time. Addition to the deputies list is by audition. For more information, please contact the Director of Music.
